It’s Christmastime, and you know what that means. Different variants of Ebeneezer Scrooge will start popping up on various streaming platforms as the Christmas Carol movie multiverse manifests in all its glory. Still, as heartwarming as that story is, what we really want to see are all the funny Christmas movies on Netflix, because we have an account and we’re paying for it.
Luckily, Netflix is chock-full of movies where total strangers pretend to be in a relationship during awkward family dinners. Or films where girls fall in love with amnesic heartthrobs who turn out to be Santa Claus’ second cousin. Christmas is the season for ridiculous chaos (just ask our mother), and it can be fun indulging in a little holiday madness… as long as it’s not happening to us.
If you want to start planning your holiday viewing party, check out this list. We’re exploring all the funny Christmas films Netflix has in its December lineup, from Love, Actually to Falling for Christmas to El Camino Christmas and more. Ready to start laughing? Let’s go!
41 Funny Christmas Movies on Netflix
1. Klaus (2019)
This 2019 animated film has J.K. Simmons voice a mysterious toymaker, Klaus, who’s on a mission to bring love, joy, and laughter to the feuding people of the Arctic Circle. That, and pictures of Spider-Man. Naturally.
2. Love Actually (2003)
Who knew this 2003 film that follows multiple people trying to find or hold onto love during Christmas would become such a holiday classic? We love seeing Hugh Grant’s character David dance around 10 Downing Street to The Pointer Sisters’ song “Jump.”
We’re still not sure if that scene where Mark (Andrew Lincoln) declares his love to his married crush Juliet (Keira Knightly) via cue cards is romantic or just creepy. Careful, Mark. This girl has Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp watching her back.
3. Holidate (2020)
Awkward holiday dinners are a mainstay of the season, especially if you have a family that keeps commenting on your nonexistent love life. That’s what inspires Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey’s characters to pose as each other’s dates for the holidays in order to placate the parents.
Naturally, the whole arrangement is strictly platonic and devoid of any real romantic feelings, right guys? Um, guys?
4. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
What would you do if you saw Santa Claus visit your home? If you’re car thief Teddy (Judah Lewis) and his little sister Kate (Darby Camp), the answer is simple — hide in his sleigh and take a joy ride.
Unfortunately, the sleigh breaks down, the reindeer scatter, and the presents are lost, requiring Teddy to hook Santa up with a new sweet ride. Who knew boosting cars could get you on the Nice List?
5. The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
In this follow-up to The Christmas Chronicles, 13-year-old Kate returns to the North Pole thanks to the efforts of Berlsnickel (Julian Dennison). Too bad Berlsnickel is a disgruntled elf who’s intent on sabotaging Christmas by creating a potion to make all the other elves go crazy.
Maybe Santa needs to start issuing mandatory self-care days?
6. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Jeronicus Jangle (Forest Whitaker) has just created the prototype for what could be the hottest Christmas toy on the market — a sentient matador doll named Don Juan Diego (Ricky Martin). Unfortunately, Diego decides he doesn’t want to be mass produced and runs away.
Maybe he saw the latest Buzz Lightyear movie and wanted to escape that fate.
7. Trolls Holiday (2017)
In this 2017 holiday special, Troll queen Poppy (Anna Kendrick) decides to visit Bergen Town and share her holiday traditions after the Bergens end their tradition of… eating Trolls on “Trollstice.”
Note to Poppy: don’t invite them to dinner.
8. White Christmas (1954)
Named after the Irving Berlin song, this 1954 holiday film stars Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye as two performers trying to save their former army general’s hotel from bankruptcy by putting on a holiday show.
Given what a classic this Christmas movie’s become, we’re hoping our pitch for a multi-picture live action version of Joe Diffie’s Leroy the Redneck Reindeer has similar success.
9. Love Hard (2021)
In Love Hard, optimistic LA romantic Natalie (Nina Dobrev) flies to the East Coast over the holidays to meet Tag (Darren Bennett), a dreamy guy she hooked up with on a dating app — only to discover she’s been catfished by Tag’s friend Josh (Jimmy O. Yang).
Wait, Jimmy O. Yang? The famous Asian comedian who’s been in everything from Crazy Rich Asians to The Lego Movie 2? Are we sure she didn’t accidentally level up?
10. Christmas With You (2022)
If there’s one thing Christmas movies have taught us, it’s that small towns cure everything. Just ask burned out pop star Angelina (Aimee Garcia) who moves to a small town and not only regains her inspiration but also falls in love with Freddy Prince Jr.
Forget Christmas in New York — if you want a better life, spend the holidays in Smallville.
11. 1000 Miles from Christmas (2021)
This Spanish comedy follows Raúl (Tamar Novas), an auditor who hates Christmas and wants to travel to the Caribbean to get away from the holidays. Unfortunately, his boss sends him to a picturesque village dedicated to Christmas to audit a candy company.
Fortunately, “picturesque village” is the Spanish equivalent of “small town,” so we know where this is going…
12. Falling for Christmas (2022)
Lindsay Lohan’s taken more than a few missteps in her career, but in this new rom-com, a wrong turn during a skiing trip leaves her spoiled character with a bad case of amnesia. Now a literal blank slate, this former mean girl gets a chance to reinvent herself under the care of a widowed lodge owner (Chord Overstreet) and his daughter.
If that ski resort is a small town, we’re betting the prognosis is good.
13. The Princess Switch (2018)
Christmas movies can take inspiration from anything: songs, news stories — or even the classic Mark Twain book The Prince and the Pauper. Instead of His Royal Highness, though, this updated version has a duchess and a Chicago baker switch places for the holidays.
Oh, and did we mention that both Lady Margaret and Stacy the baker are played by High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens? We’re not sure what we find more unbelievable — that a baker could live the life of a duchess or the movie expects us to believe there are two people out there who look just like Vanessa Hudgens.
14. The Princess Switch: Switched Again (2020)
Remember how we said we couldn’t believe there were two people who look like Vanessa Hudgens in The Princess Switch? Well, the sequel throws in a third doppelganger by having Hudgens play Lady Margaret’s evil cousin Lady Fiona who’s scheming to steal the throne.
Seeing Hudgens play three look-alikes in the same movie raises so many questions. Like, did she get three paychecks?
15. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021)
By this point, we’re half-expecting Hudgens to pull an Eddie Murphy and just play every role in the movie. But The Princess Switch 3 is about how Lady Margaret and Stacy team up with look-alike Fiona to regain a priceless Christmas relic… and then save the multiverse from more evil variants of themselves.
Oh come on, we can’t be the only ones who were thinking that.
16. The Knight Before Christmas (2019)
This fantasy rom-com sees a 14th century knight (Josh Whitehouse) sent to the 21st century where he romances a high school science teacher (Vanessa Hudgens) after she accidentally hits him with her car.
Clearly, this Princess Switch actress likes her guys on the medieval side.
17. An Unremarkable Christmas (2020)
This Spanish comedy sees an accountant/magician invite his boss to his home for Christmas. Unfortunately, his boss is on Columbia’s most-wanted list. Bet he has some fun work stories to share…
18. Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery (2022)
In Murderville, Detective Terry Seattle (Will Arnett) teams up with clueless celebrity guests who improv their way through different homicide scenes to discover whodunnit. This holiday season, the murder victim ends up being a store Santa (Sean Hayes), requiring new detectives Jason Bateman, Maya Rudolph, and Pete Davidson to tap into their detective skills and find the culprit.
Here’s their first tip: celebrating Christmas in a town called “Murderville” is a really bad idea.
19. El Camino Christmas (2017)
Eric (Luke Grimes) heads to the small town of El Camino in search of the father he never met (Tim Allen) — only to end up barricaded in a liquor store and involved in a shootout with some goofy police officers.
Note to Eric: Next time, go to the North Pole. We hear that Tim Allen is a lot more hospitable.
20. A California Christmas (2020)
A comedy of errors gets kicked off when wealthy playboy Joseph (Josh Swickard) is mistaken for a ranch hand at the dairy farm/vineyard he’s supposed to buy and falls for the owner Callie (played by Swickard’s real-life wife Lauren Swickard).
Problems ensue, but get solved by a good bottle of wine from the family vineyard. As all problems should be.
21. A California Christmas: City Lights (2021)
Wedding bells are in the air as Joseph and Callie from A California Christmas plan to tie the knot during Christmas. However, Joseph’s mother— inspired by her son’s love — decides to run off with her yoga instructor, placing the family company in jeopardy.
Time to pop open another bottle of wine and take care of the problem with some real Christmas spirits.
22. Father Christmas is Back (2021)
When your family name happens to be “Christmas,” you’re bound to have happy holiday gatherings, right? Not if you’re the four squabbling sisters in this British comedy that sees Elizabeth Hurley, John Cleese, and Nathalie Cox unite for a celebration full of misunderstandings, backstabbing, and long-buried family secrets.
Luckily, the “Father Christmas” in this family happens to be played by legendary Frasier actor Kelsey Grammar. Let it all out girls. He’s listening.
23. Delivery by Christmas (2022)
When courier Marysia (Monika Frajczyk)’s vindictive boss mixes up the labels on four gift packages that she delivers on Christmas Eve, she accidentally gives them to the wrong people who interpret their now very inappropriate gifts in comical ways.
Now, it’s up to Marysia to race across town and get the gifts to their proper owners in this Love, Actually-style Polish comedy that’ll leave you wondering if digital gift cards really are the way to go this holiday.
24. A Very Murray Christmas (2015)
A snowstorm forces most of Bill Murray’s celebrity guests to cancel their appearance on his live Christmas special. Depressed, Murray wanders around town singing carols with random people.
Luckily, this is Hollywood, so every random waitress or cab driver he meets happens to be Chris Rock, Jenny Lewis, Maya Rudolph, George Clooney, or Miley Cyrus. What can we say? It’s tough making a living in show business.
25. Just Another Christmas (2020)
Here’s a fun fact about Christmas films — if you get into an accident, you don’t get hurt. Instead, you meet your soulmate, transform into Santa Claus… or start time traveling like Jorge (Leandro Hassum). After falling off his roof while dressed as Santa, Jorge is cursed to skip ahead to all his future Christmas Eves and learn how he’s wasted his life.
Plus, he probably needs to wear ugly Christmas sweaters and eat nothing but fruitcake all day. Now that’s a curse.
26. A Not So Merry Christmas (2022)
This Mexican remake of Just Another Christmas, sees grumpy Chuy (Mauricio Ochmann) cursed to live in a series of all his future Christmas Eves. On the plus side, we hear It’s a Wonderful Life holds up really well in repeat viewings.
27. Puppy Star Christmas (2018)
Four cute puppies stow away on Santa Claus’ sleigh and end up in the North Pole where they help preserve the Christmas spirit. Seriously, does Saint Nick’s ride include any security systems? Given all the valuable presents he delivers every Christmas Eve, you’d think he’d at least install a club…
28. Captain Underpants: Mega Blissmas (2020)
Everybody’s favorite juvenile delinquents George and Harold decide Christmas could use a few upgrades — so they travel back in time with superhero Captain Underpants to transform Christmas into “Blissmas.”
Too bad the new holiday now involves giant robot grudge matches that could doom us all. Have we learned nothing from Back to the Future?
29. Grumpy Christmas (2021)
Ebeneezer Scrooge has nothing on Don Servando (Héctor Bonilla), a grumpy grandpa who got kicked out of his nursing home for beating his nurse with a cane.
Instead of getting the usual visit from three ghosts, he meets someone more powerful — his family’s Aunt Alicia who engages him in an all-out-war to control Christmas. Still sounds way more civil than our last office holiday party.
30. A Boy Called Christmas (2021)
Some kids have very clear career paths. Take thirteen-year-old Nikolas who spends his days teaching mice to speak, making friends with reindeer, and searching for the legendary land of the elves, Elfhelm.
Clearly, the boy has the makings of a first-rate accountant.
31. Best. Christmas. Ever! (2023)
We all have that annoying friend who brags about their perfect life in their holiday newsletter. But when Charlotte (Heather Graham) spends Christmas with her college friend Jackie (Brandy Norwood), she sees this as her chance to discover if Jackie’s life really is all wine and roses.
The problem? It kind of is. This is Grammy award-winning singer Brandy we’re talking about, after all.
32. A Castle for Christmas (2021)
American author Sophie (Brooke Shields) travels to Scotland for the holidays and immediately decides to buy a castle. Maybe she’s still sore about not receiving that Barbie dream house when she turned six?
Unfortunately, the castle’s owner Myles (Cary Elwes) isn’t interested in selling. Clearly, the former Princess Bride star has had it with answering all requests with “As you wish.”
33. The Powerpuff Girls: ‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas (2003)
Fight among family members? Typical Christmas dinner. Fight among family members that makes you see your parents and siblings in a new light? Typical Christmas movie dinner.
And if your family members happen to have super powers and need to start duking it out with a nemesis trying to destroy Christmas, well, that’s a Powerpuff Girls Christmas dinner.
34. A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)
By now, there are so many retellings of the Cinderella story that you could easily raise an army of Cinderella variants ready to protect the multiverse from evil stepmothers everywhere (seriously, when is that version of the story coming out?).
One good recruit might be Katherine “Kat” Decker, a singer-songwriter who catches the eye of Santa Claus himself (actually teenage billionaire Nick Wintergarden) while performing at Christmas entertainment park, Santa Land. A Cinderella who’s got Santa watching her back? Sounds like a powerful variant to us.
35. Christmas Crossfire (2020)
For those of you who like your Christmas movies a bit more… murder-y, Christmas Crossfire (aka. Wir können nicht anders) is a German comedy-thriller about a man who inadvertently keeps a woman from getting killed and then goes on the run with her as a gang of her would-be killers tracks them down.
Think Santa will show up to save the day?
36. Christmas Wedding Planner (2017)
Kelsey (Jocelyn Hudon) is all set to start her career as a wedding planner by overseeing her cousin’s Christmas wedding. Unfortunately, she discovers her cousin’s fiancé is being investigated by handsome PI Connor, who also happens to be her cousin’s ex-boyfriend.
Sounds bizarre, but with all the inflated costs, scheduling conflicts, and winter weather that come with a holiday wedding, Connor is probably the least of Kelsey’s worries.
37. A Christmas Prince (2017)
One fringe benefit about falling in love in a Christmas film? There’s a shockingly high probability that the man of your dreams is next in line to take the throne of some charming European country you’ve never heard of.
That’s the case in this 2017 romantic comedy that sees reporter Amber Moore (Rose McIver) pose as an American tutor to get the inside story on playboy prince Richard (Ben Lamb). As the two fall in love, Amber discovers a family plot to prevent Richard from taking his rightful place as king. Sounds messy, but who doesn’t experience a little drama with their future in-laws?
38. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018)
One year after A Christmas Prince, Amber and Richard are all set to tie the knot during the holidays — which turns out to be a nightmare for Amber when she realizes how stressful the traditions of royal wedding protocol can be.
Maybe she should hire Kelsey from Christmas Wedding Planner? We hear she has some experience now.
39. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019)
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes… well we know the rest. The inevitable third film in the A Christmas Prince trilogy sees Richard and Amber preparing to welcome their first child to the kingdom.
Naturally, the baby is due to arrive by Christmas. Seriously, is there some royal decree proclaiming all major events in the kingdom need to happen in December?
40. The Holiday Calendar (2018)
Struggling photographer Abby Sutton (Kat Graham) receives an Advent calendar from her grandfather with the ability to predict the future.
Yes, but can it plan a schedule that lets us attend five Christmas dinners in the same day? Now, that would be magic.
41. Christmas Full of Grace (2022)
Unwilling to show up at his family’s Christmas dinner alone, Carlinhos (Sérgio Malheiros) gets mad woman Graca (Gessica Kayane) to pose as his girlfriend… only for her to claim she’s the daughter of Papa Noel (aka. Santa Claus). Bet she has some interesting daddy issues…
